Llyr Williams is a Welsh Born, Te Whanganui- A -Tara based artist.
He has a professional background in product/graphic design, Furniture making, Architectural model making and stonemasonry.
Llyr draws upon his skills and experience that he's gained within these professional disciplines to create works that sit at the convergence of Object and art, exploring both 3D and 2D works.
Llyr's furniture works are derived from working within a limitation, predominantly using found objects. The process differs with each piece as Llyr adapts, studies and responds to the materials he has in front of him to create a basis and archetype to inform the design of a new object or sculpture.
With his 2d works, Llyr takes a more cathartic and softer approach. He expresses and translates his relationship to natural environments and natural materials. Focusing heavily on how plant life, stones and specific natural sites have an effect on his wairua.
